The cave art kimono was created as an homage to cave paintings created by the oldest living African tribe, the San. The San tribe currently lives in Southern Africa mainly in Botswana, Naimbia and South Africa.

The artwork mimics cave paintings inspired by the 4,500 cave artworks found in Tsodilo Hills, Botswana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site is believed to have been inhabited by the ancestors of the San who created the paintings which date as far back as 24,000 years ago. Cave paintings give an idea of what life was like back then by depicting images of cattle, wild animals, hunters and gatherers.
